The Outer's Club

What is the Outer's Club?

Uxbridge and its surrounding area boast a unique geophysical composition and relative proximity to a diverse range of recreational prospects in Southern Ontario. The Uxbridge Secondary School Outer’s Club provides students with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in wilderness recreation. Members of the Outer’s Club participate in various excursions involving first-rate outdoor recreation and education. A variety of group outings are offered which accommodate differing interests and ability levels. Many excursions involve backcountry canoe-tripping and wilderness camping trips of three to five days in duration. Other outdoor pursuits and possibilities are made available to members such as winter activities, skills training sessions, wildlife viewing and many other interesting options. Trips are offered on a cost basis so as to maximize member participation. Revenue for the USS Outer’s Club is derived through various fund-raising initiatives in the school and community which allow us to replace/replenish gear and to offset trip expenses for our members.

Our Outer’s Club members develop and refine skills relating to wilderness tripping and backcountry etiquette. Leave No Trace concepts are practiced and reinforced to promote sustainable enjoyment and awareness of our natural environments. It is the intention of the Outer’s Club to encourage an appreciation and respect for wilderness areas and promote limited-impact outdoor recreation opportunities to our members. The Outer’s Club has a long-established tradition at our school and support from USS Administration.
